Tim & Margreeth Alexander would like to welcome you for a wonderful 3 day break at the Chateau des Lys. The trip includes a 4 day 3 night with evening meals and breakfast and a chance to get to know the hosts. There are trips  around the stunning local area with it’s amazing history and unsurpassable nature and a splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Day 1  After arrival in Calais a short half an hour brings us to the 80m ramparts of Montreuil sur Mer where you will have some time to refresh yourself and explore this jewel in the northern French crown. The ancient royal city boasts tombs of Merovingian kings and was sacked by Henry the 8th. We recommend lunching in the stunning Relais de France the inn where Hugo wrote Les Miserables. It’s also the ancestral town of the Roux brothers, the  genial inspirations behind much of the new wave of English cuisine.

Then a short hop to Tim & Margreeth’s to settle in, get to know each other drink a glass of bubbles and have dinner

Day 2  After  breakfast either Tim or Margreeth will show us around their Chateau and it’s grounds, then it’s off to explore the local area. The itinerary will be adapted  to suit the weather and availability but will take in the beautiful St. Valery on the Somme estuary, departure place for William the Conqueror and prison for Joan of Arc. This Unesco world heritage area includes an abundance of wildlife and seal sightings are common. There will be plenty of places for you to choose from for lunch on the route.

The surrounding area boasts many attractions, the highest cliffs in France, the Baie de Somme steam railway, the battlefields of Crecy & Agincourt, antique and brocante shops and you’ll walk in the footsteps of Monet, Jules Verne and Toulouse- Lautrec, all had connections here.

Then back to the Chateau for dinner

Day 3  After  breakfast your lovely coach driver will take you on an excursion to the market city of Amiens, home of the largest gothic Cathedral in northern France and its Roman “hortillinages” or gardens. You’ll follow the Somme valley with its breathtaking views and wonderfully unspoilt little villages. Afterwards we travel to Thiepval, the largest WW1 memorial in France before heading home again and dinner. Throughout your trip you will discover that your hosts love hosting people and there will doubtless be music and entertainments at the Chateau while you’re there. They are very relaxed and informal people and they hope that you’ll feel that way too.

Day 4  After breakfast it’s goodbye to Margreeth & Tim and back to England. But not before you’ve had a chance to stock up on some  goodies from a French supermarket. Your driver can advise you on what you’re allowed to bring back.
