Somme Estuary

Château des Lys nestles between the woods & the sea just on the edge of the small village Sailly-Flibeaucourt. This is a delightful area of France often overlooked in the rush to Paris and the South but the French have been holidaying here for ages. A ten minute drive from us will bring you to the woods of Crecy, the Somme bay, the Somme steam railway, the gorgeous St. Valery and the picturesque Le Crotoy. Abbeville is only 10 km and the Cathedral city of Amiens is less than half an hour. Key WW1 sites and the battlefields of Crecy & Agincourt (Azincourt) are close by- the visitor’s centre at Agincourt is particularly well done. Cayeux, Fort Mahon & the lovely Ault (our favourite stretch of the coast with its fossil beaches- ask us for a hammer) are only about 20 mins drive as is the amazing walled city of Montreuil sur Mer. The chic “North Riviera” towns Le Touquet & Treport are less than 30 minutes and should you want it Paris itself is an hour and a half by train from Abbeville, not that you’ll need it there’s enough to do here. Nearby attractions include three Golf courses; the Valloires Abbey & gardens; several tree climbing centres and numerous boat & fishing trips. There’s horse riding, go-carting, sailing and much more. The Bagatelle fun park will keep the kids happy all day long. The Baie du Somme is a paradise for walkers and cyclists with the famous nature reserve & bird park Le Parc du Marquentere close by. Seal watching, mud walks across the bay, fossil hunting and walks through the ancient woods of Crecy (and our own grounds) are all very near. Enjoy the many antique and flea markets and cultural events that the area has to offer or just potter around the many lovely little villages with their ancient churches and fine dining. Or kick back and relax in the Château’s 14 acres of quiet woodland and enjoy la vie en rose. Click around below- we do!
